Meet Amy (she/her) LPC, LCMHC, MED

Relatable therapist offering support for healing from narcissistic abuse and difficult relationships

Welcoming Telehealth Therapy Clients in Virginia and North Carolina

Hi! I'm so glad you're here.

I’m originally from Northern Virginia and spent over a decade working for a boutique government affairs firm on Capitol Hill. While I appreciated the structure and challenge of that fast paced environment, I felt a strong calling to do more meaningful, people centered work. That led me to pursue my master’s degree in Counseling and Development, which I completed in 2016, all while working full-time. It was a leap of faith that changed the course of my life.

I began my counseling career in 2015 as an intern at a private practice in Falls Church, Virginia. From the start, I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients and presenting concerns. I initially focused on men’s issues and couples work, and while those remain areas of interest, my practice has since evolved to center on relationships (both with others and with self), life transitions, anxiety, codependency, and healing from difficult or antagonistic relationships.

I have advanced training and a strong clinical interest in narcissistic abuse recovery. These relationships often involve subtle, complex dynamics that can be hard to name and even harder to heal from. My goal is to offer clients a space where they feel deeply understood and supported as they navigate these unique challenges.

In 2018, I moved to Australia and continued seeing my U.S. based clients via telehealth. While there, I also joined a private practice and eventually opened my own in Melbourne. Working with clients from around the world was a deeply meaningful professional experience that affirmed a core belief I hold: our struggles are universally human, and everyone deserves support and healing, no matter where they come from.

I returned to the U.S. in late 2021 and settled in central North Carolina. I’m licensed to practice in both Virginia and North Carolina. I understand the demands of high pressure work environments in places like the D.C. area, and I also appreciate the quieter, more grounded pace of life here in North Carolina. Both perspectives inform how I show up in the therapy room.

My approach is grounded in psychodynamic and humanistic, person-centered principles. This means I aim to understand how your early experiences shape your current patterns, while also showing up with authenticity, warmth, and deep respect. I’m a trauma informed, and antagonism informed clinician, which means I recognize the nuanced ways these relationships affect emotional wellbeing, and I work with that lens in mind.

I regularly integrate tools from the Gottman Method, Imago Therapy, mindfulness based strategies, and psychoeducation. Many clients find it helpful to understand the “why” behind their patterns, and I value the opportunity to support that insight and growth.

Currently, I’m in training to become a certified narcissistic abuse  treatment clinician (NATC) through Dr. Ramani Durvasula’s training. This work is incredibly important to me.

My style is warm, relatable, and straightforward. I won’t tell you what to do, but I also won’t avoid the hard stuff. I believe that therapy should feel collaborative, grounded, and yes, even occasionally light hearted. Many clients have shared that they feel comfortable, safe, and at ease in our sessions. Laughter often shows up in the work, which I believe can be deeply healing in its own right.

Above all, I hold the therapeutic relationship as sacred. I’m honored to be trusted with my clients’ stories, and I work hard to create a space that feels nonjudgmental, empowering, and truly supportive. Together, we’ll work toward clarity, confidence, and the kind of life that feels right for you.

I proudly welcome individuals of all races, cultures, and backgrounds. I am LGBTQIA+  affirming and neuroaffirming, and experienced in supporting a wide range of identities and lived experiences.

If you have questions or would like to explore working together, feel free to reach out. I’d be honored to connect with you.
